A Different Type of Thankfulness

This morning I woke up to this facebook message from my mother:
“Praising God for the skilled hands of Doctor John Myers at PennState HMC. Twenty years ago God guided Dr. Myers hands as he repaired your heart defect and I am forever thankful for that gift. Thank you Lord for giving Bethany a “dancing heart” for YOU! Celebrating the gift of you today! “
I know about my heart disease, of course, and I know that my mom is extremely thankful that God’s hand protected me through all the scary procedures; but what hit me this morning more than anything was the realization that I truly have life.
Yes, physically, I know…and that I am truly thankful for, don’t get me wrong. My heart condition is a huge part of my testimony. However, when I got this message from my mom, what the Holy Spirit really spoke to me was how thankful I needed to be for my spiritual life.
Each new day is a welcoming door to fight on the battle field of either devotion or lack there of to God and His Will for my life. So, today I was strictly reminded of my spiritual health and how not only 20 years ago today did God place His hands over the surgeons to give me a new heart, but God Himself intervened and gave me a new heart.
What a lovely reminder this is to know that I not only have life, but I have life abundantly.
Thank you Abba.
